ACTION: TRAIN THE NEXT GENERATION
Jessalyn Aaland’s Guide for Youth Protestors is a hand-drawn, two-sided, quarter-fold sheet designed to help youth keep themselves safe while protesting through humorous, food-related illustrations. It features such topics as: basic info on police tactics (kettling, LRADS, tear gas/pepper spray), ways cops might try to get you to talk to them, and knowing your rights as a student. Key players include the following: celery cops, a burrito cussing out a celery cop, and our new favorite youth-oriented 501(c)3, “Cool Youth Org.”
To participate in this action, download and print a pdf of the guide. Copy it double-sided onto brightly-colored paper (recommended: Neenah ASTROBRIGHTS), and fold into quarters. At protests or other actions, hand them out to youth (particularly unaccompanied minors). You can also give them to educators to distribute to their students, or leave them at locations where teenagers congregate: community centers, “teen zones” of public libraries, the local boba tea shop, etc.Want to hear about more events and updates?
