I met an old Black Panther the other day
at a wake for a city’s broken heart
and we talked about old days
and brand-new communists
free breakfasts and cultural amnesia
countless intersectional blind spots
as a speaker sobbed
in brutal eloquence.

Andrew Sano was born in Montreal Canada in 1963, raised on a little hill near Seattle Washington and currently resides in Oakland California. He was a Rollen Austen Scholar at the University of Washington and earned his BFA in Drawing and Painting in 1986. He is also an alumnus of the Skowhegan School of Art, class of 1985. After moving to the San Francisco Bay area in 1987, he has written and performed music in nightclubs and bars throughout the bay area. He also built several large structures for the Burning Man organization from 2000-2004 nearly all of which burned beautifully. He is outrageously blessed with many friends in the Art and Music scene of the Bay area. Cats find him irresistible.
